DIY: Clay heart mobile

DIY: clay heart mobile

This is the first tutorial I’m writing for my blog and I’ve had so much fun doing it. I wanted to make this heart mobile for our bedroom but it ended up hanging in the hallway because it looks great on the dark grey wall. This craft project is really easy to make and costs next to nothing. I paid €2,- for the clay and about €1,- for the piece of driftwood. Happy crafting!

materials

Materials needed:

▪ piece of driftwood
▪ self-hardening white clay
▪ heart shape cookie cutters, 3 different sizes
▪ rolling pin
▪ toothpick
▪ white thread
▪ needle

step1

Start with rolling out the clay using the rolling pin until it’s about 2-3mm thick. Then cut out the hearts with the cookie cutters. I made 7 big hearts, 5 medium hearts and 3 small ones. Depending on how long you want the heart strings to be.

step2

Use the toothpick to poke holes through the clay. Poke a hole at the top and at the bottom. Except for the last three hearts, they only need a hole at the top.

step3

Now let the clay hearts dry overnight.

step4

When the clay is all dried up you can ‘sew’ them together using the needle and white thread. Be sure to make a couple of knots at the top end of each heart so they won’t slide. Remember to save enough thread at the top end of the first heart, you will need this later to tie the heart strings to the driftwood.

step5

The last step is to tie the heart strings to the piece of driftwood (or you can also use a stick). Attach an extra piece of thread on both ends of the driftwood, this is for hanging the mobile. Et voilà, your clay heart mobile is ready!
